Fundamental Critical Care Support (FCCS) & Simulation Day 6.26.2026

** This course is for ICU RNs, ICU RTs, Non-Intensivist MDs, and Advanced Practice Providers

The Fundamental Critical Care Support (FCCS) course is a comprehensive multi-disciplinary course addressing essential management principles for critically ill patients. This advanced course targets experienced critical care nurses, respiratory therapists and non-intensivist trained physicians who identify, stabilize and treat critically ill patients. (This is not an introduction to critical care course).

ONLINE Portion : Education will involve an online hosted course that uses Society of Critical Care Medicine's (SCCM) state-of-the-art learning management system and participants complete the lecture portion of the course over a few weeks at a self-paced approach. Participants who successfully complete the online licensed course and corresponding posttests will receive a certificate of completion from SCCM. The online didactic material is started prior to the in-person portion.

IN-PERSON Portion : There will be a skill station / simulation portion on Friday, June 26th, from 07:45AM-4:00PM at the University of Colorado Hospital Simulation Center in Anschutz Outpatient Pavilion, Rooms 2005/2006. The in-person portion encourages communication, teamwork, and builds collaboration among attendees. This simulation has a limited participation capacity. After completion of the course, participants will be able to provide higher quality and more effective care to hospitalized critically ill patients.

Learning Outcome Statement : Increased familiarity with practice demonstrated in simulation activities, online didactic application and small group scenarios. Communication strategies and simulated clinical scenarios allow for reflection and feedback in real time.

When: Online, self-paced modules from SCCM, assigned. An in-person skills day on Friday, June 26th , from 7:45AM-4:00PM .

Additional Information TUITION INCLUDES: FCCS Course eBook and licensed course material which remain accessible for 1 full year after course registration High Fidelity Clinical Simulation CONTINUING EDUCATION CREDIT: 7.0 Continuing Nursing Education contact hours will be awarded to nurses who attend the simulation day in its entirety and complete the course evaluation. The number of contact hours awarded to respiratory therapists is pending.

UCHealth is an approved provider of continuing education by the Colorado Nurses Association, an accredited approver of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation.

Requirements for successful completion of the educational activity: Required attendance of 100% of in-person activity Submission of online evaluation form (contact hour certificate is available at completion of the online evaluation form) This educational activity does not include any content that relates to the products and/or services of a commercial interest that would create a conflict of interest.
