UCHealth's comprehensive basic IV course is designed to provide healthcare professionals with the knowledge and skills necessary to safely and effectively administer intravenous (IV) therapy in accordance with Colorado state requirements. Participants will learn the fundamentals of IV therapy, including indications, techniques, complications, and patient care management. This hybrid course will combine online lectures, demonstrations, hands-on practice, simulated clinical scenarios, and a clinical shift to practice live IV skills. Participants will be able to practice IV insertion techniques on manikins and live patients, receiving feedback from experienced instructors. This IV course meets the educational requirements set forth by the Colorado State Board of Nursing and the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment for healthcare professionals performing IV therapy.
The course has virtual lectures at 6 pm on February 10th, 17th, 24th, and March 3rd. Hands-on skills day in the lab on March 10th from 9 am- 3 pm. A clinical shift will follow successful completion of the didactic and skills portions.
